A new warning about smartphones suggests the phones may be recording every keystroke a person makes, including passwords.

A security researcher said he found tracking software, called Carrier IQ, in an Android smartphone that could not be turned off.

Carrier IQ is used on Android, Blackberry and Nokia handsets.

The company that makes the software said it helps diagnose problems, but doesn't track keystrokes.

However, the researcher said he found it even on a phone that the company said was safe.
