Mackayla McEvoy and her family were on vacation in New South Wales.
She was playing near a pack of kangaroos, when one of the animals suddenly attacked.
The kangaroo pinned her down, and Mackayla's stepdad, Mitch McGovern, ran to help.
"As I jumped over the top of Mackayla to get rid of the kangaroo, all I could see was her lying face down on the ground and her shirt was all ripped, her back was cut, there was no noise, I thought the worst," McGovern said.
"All I could see was grey, grey, grey," said Mackayla.
They rushed Mackayla to a nearby hospital where she was treated for lacerations.
The park has since agreed to put up warning signs.
The attack hasn't changed Mackayla's dream, though. She still hopes to one day become a veterinarian.
