The green four-door 2005 Ford Taurus was stolen Thursday from a Stater Bros. parking lot at about 6 p.m. The car's owner had met with her sisters to decide what to do with their mother's ashes, which were encased in a box in the back seat.
Saturday at about 11 a.m., the sisters were driving down Imperial Highway when they saw their car parked in a lot of a medical plaza. They flagged down a deputy and reported the discovery.
The box with their mother's ashes was inside the trunk of the car.
Mary, a mother of five and a grandmother, died of cancer last August. More than anything, Mary's daughters said they just wanted their mother's ashes back.
No arrests were made, and no suspect descriptions were released.
