Kirk Douglas pledges $10 million to Skid Row women's shelter

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Douglas, 95, is donating $10 million to the Anne Douglas Center for Women at the Los Angeles Mission, named for his wife. The couple made an initial pledge of $5 million of continued support in July. The shelter was opened 20 years ago on Valentine's Day.

Douglas's announcement surprised even his wife. He gave her an award Wednesday for her work at the shelter.

Douglas says his wife told him she was determined to do something for her country when they married 57 years ago and he says she has never stopped.
