A student from Desert Pathways High School in Lancaster was arrested Thursday for bringing a loaded gun to school.

School officials said they got a tip the 15-year-old boy was on campus with a gun. When the principal investigated, he found the student was in possession of a .45-caliber pistol.

The teen was taken to the Lancaster sheriff's station and reportedly told investigators he carried the gun to-and-from school for protection.

School officials say there is no indication the teen threatened staff or other students.

The boy's name was not released because he is a minor.
