Suspect search puts 4 South LA schools on lockdown

SOUTH LOS ANGELES

Authorities say the victim was at a recycling location at 41st Street and Avalon Boulevard at 7:20 a.m. when he was approached by a suspect who produced a handgun.

The suspect demanded money, and when the victim refused, the victim was shot once in the leg.

The victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition. The suspect fled with unspecified "property," police said.

Officers searched the neighborhood for the suspect, which forced school lockdowns at Harmony Elementary, Wadsworth Elementary, Miller Elementary and the Wanda Mikes Primary Center, which is on the campus of Miller Elementary.

The lockdowns were lifted at about 11 a.m. The suspect has not been located.
