Chino Hills deputy-involved shooting: Suspect fatally shot

CHINO HILLS, Calif.

Deputies initially responded to a call about a stabbing on Hickory Lane. The suspect, identified as Chino Hills resident James Roy Wilson, 25, fled and attempted to carjack one vehicle before he succeeded in stealing a minivan on his second try, on Willow Lane.

When deputies arrived on scene, they spotted Wilson and pursued him until he crashed in a field. He fled on foot and broke into a home in the 5800 block of Brushwood Court.

The homeowner, an actor with combat training and a 5-month-old at home with him, confronted Wilson in the master bedroom. Wilson threw a hammer at the homeowner, which the homeowner threw back, striking Wilson in the head, the homeowner said.

Meanwhile, deputies ordered Wilson to come out of the home. Officials said he ran out with a gun and a knife in hand.

Deputies shot and killed Wilson in the street.

The original stabbing victim was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
