Mother accused of drowning 7-year-old daughter in Van Nuys, LAPD says

VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A mother is in custody after allegedly drowning her 7-year-old daughter at a Van Nuys apartment Friday, police said.

The incident happened around 5:40 p.m. at the 6800 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The girl was found unresponsive in the bathtub and was later declared dead at the scene.

The suspect, 37-year-old Graciela Castellanos, was arrested and booked into jail. Her bail was set at $2 million.
