SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two people were killed and three others injured in a wrong-way crash on the 5 Freeway in Sylmar early Friday.

The crash was reported shortly before 3:30 a.m. near the transition ramp on the northbound 5 Freeway at the northbound 14 Freeway. The ramp was shut down for the investigation and reopened shortly before 8 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said the fatal three-vehicle crash involved a Honda Accord traveling on the wrong side of the road from Golden Valley Road, which is about 4 miles from the crash site.

Two men from that vehicle were killed. Authorities said they were believed to be in their 20s or 30s.

One person from the second vehicle remains in critical condition while two others were hospitalized with less-threatening injuries, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but investigators said it appears alcohol and speed may have been a factor.
