Veterans Day 2014: Freebies, deals for veterans, active military

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Many businesses will spend this Veterans Day offering deals and freebies as a way to salute those who serve.

On Tuesday, here are some of the freebies being offered:

California Pizza Kitchen

California Pizza Kitchen is offering a free entree from a special Veterans Day menu at all participating restaurants in the U.S. to all active and retired military members.

Applebee's

Veterans and active duty service members get a free "Thank You" meal when you dine in at Applebee's. The promotion is available from open to close at participating Applebee's restaurants. Guests will need to provide proof of their service.

Outback Steakhouse

Outback is honoring all active and retired military personnel with a free Bloomin' Onion and a beverage this Veterans Day. You must show a valid military ID at participating restaurants. Plus, Military Mates receive receive 15 percent off from Nov. 11 - Dec. 31, 2014.

Starbucks

Participating Starbucks locations are offering a free tall brewed coffee to veterans, active duty service members and military spouses on Veterans Day. Plus, for each Veterans Starbucks Card purchased through Nov. 11, Starbucks will donate $5 to Onward Veterans.

Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme is offering all veterans and active duty military personnel a free doughnut (any variety) and a small coffee at participating locations. No purchase necessary. Limit one offer per guest per visit.

Hooters

Active-duty and retired military are invited to Hooters to dine for free on Tuesday: get a free entree by presenting a military ID or proof of service.

Baskin Robbins'

Baskin Robbins' flavor of the month in honor of Veterans Day is First Class Camouflage Ice Cream: chocolate, salty caramel and cake flavored ice creams. The ice cream chain will donate 10 cents from ice cream scoops sold at all U.S. locations to the United Service Organizations (USO).

Denny's

Denny's invites all active, inactive and retired military personnel to stop by a participating location for a free Build Your Own Grand Slam breakfast from 5 a.m. until noon. Diners will need to show a valid military ID or proof of service.

Red Lobster

From Monday, Nov. 10 through Thursday, Nov. 13, Red Lobster will be thanking veterans, active duty, active serving military and reservists with a free select appetizer, including the new crispy shrimp lettuce wraps or several other options, with a military ID or proof of service.

Olive Garden

Participating Olive Garden restaurants are offing active duty military and veterans a free entree from a special menu on Tuesday. Proof of service is required.

Chili's

Chili's will offer a free entree (from a limited menu) all day on Veterans Day to all veterans and active members with proof of military service. The offer is for dine-in only.

Red Robin

Veterans and active duty service members can get a free Red's Tavern Double Burger with Bottomless Steak Fries, dine-in only, at all participating Red Robin restaurants. Diners must provide a military I.D., proof of service, or wear your uniform.

T.G.I. Friday's

Veterans and active duty military will get a free lunch from a select menu on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Great Clips

Great Clips is offering vets a free haircut through the end of the year. Plus, they will also give anyone who comes in for a service on Veterans Day a free haircut card to give to a veteran, redeemable through Dec. 31.

CraftWorks Restaurants & Breweries

CraftWorks Restaurants & Breweries (which includes Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurants, Rock Bottom Restaurants & Breweries, Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom and ChopHouse & Brewery restaurants nationwide) will offer a complimentary craft beer at participating locations to active and retired military personnel. Locations that are prohibited from providing a free craft beer will offer a free appetizer. Service members must provide their valid military-issued ID or come dressed in uniform. To locate the nearest restaurant, veterans can visit www.craftworksrestaurants.com.

Little Caesars

Participating Little Caesars restaurants are offering free crazy bread to all active, retired and honorably discharged members of the military this Veterans Day. Just present a valid military ID or DD-214 form to confirm their veteran status.

iPic Theaters

All veterans and active duty military will receive a free movie ticket in honor of Veterans Day. Just show up a little before your film (no online tickets) with proof of service.

Sleep Number

Through Nov. 16, Sleep Number is offering current and past military personnel $700 off on a Sleep Number m7 bed plus 24-month financing and free standard shipping, plus other Sleep Number military offers.

Golden Corral

Golden Corral will once again offer their yearly free buffet meal to anyone who has served or is currently serving. The meal is planned for Monday, Nov. 17 from 5-9 p.m.

24 Hour Fitness

24 Hour Fitness is offering free club access for U.S. military service members and a guest through Tuesday, Nov. 11. Guests must be at least 18 years old and present a valid ID.

Knott's Berry Farm

Knott's Berry Farm is offering free admission to all U.S. veterans, retired and active military personnel and their spouse (or one guest) through Jan. 4, 2015. Up to six additional tickets may be purchased at a discount. Proof of military service required.

Cracker Barrel

Veterans and active military members get a free Double Chocolate Fudge Coca-Cola Cake dessert. Or, if you're not a vet, 10 percent of what you spend will be donated to the USO.

*Before you try to redeem these deals, it's a good idea to call ahead and note limitations and restrictions.

Retailers like Home Depot, Lowe's, J.C. Penny, Massage Envy and Dell are also among the dozens offering special discounts on Veterans Day

And, many of these deals for military members are also offered year-round. You can find them in a new free app called Discount Soldier.

"You're going to have over 100,000 businesses offer military discounts on Veterans Day," said Nick McDuffie, co-creator of the app.

"It has by far one of the largest Veterans Day lists across the country," explained McDuffie. "But, you can use it anytime during the year for normal military discount offers."
