SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- A possible wrong-way driver caused a deadly and fiery crash in Anaheim Hills early Sunday morning.

Two cars collided on the southbound 241 Freeway, just south of the 91 Freeway, around 3:30 a.m., according to Sgt. Michael Stoney with the California Highway Patrol.

When responding authorities arrived, they found a newer model Mercedes-Benz engulfed in flames and another vehicle with two dead occupants, Stoney said.

The driver in the Mercedes-Benz was injured and transported to a nearby hospital in unknown condition.

Stoney added that speed, the drivers' direction of travel and the sobriety of both drivers were under investigation.

The eastbound and westbound lanes of the 91 Freeway to the 241 were closed for about five hours overnight, but lanes were back open by 8:30 a.m.
