Estrogen-only therapy can lead to lumps

April 10, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
Post-menopausal women who use estrogen-only hormone replacement therapy may double their chances of getting benign or non-cancerous breast lumps.Researchers studied data from the Women's Health Initiative that found several health risks from long-term hormone therapy. They found that of the 10,000 women who had hysterectomies and used estrogen-only therapy, 232 of them had benign proliferative breast disease.

The study is in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
