Vaccine rethought after mumps outbreak

Mumps was once thought to be on its way out, but the mumps outbreak of 2006 was the biggest in 20 years, despite widespread vaccinations.

Most of the people who came down with mumps had been vaccinated twice. Officials with the Centers for Disease Control say they have found that the vaccine appears to wear off over time in some people.

The study is in the New England Journal of Medicine.
