Lionel Richie honored for life of music

HOLLYWOOD The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) held its annual pop music awards Wednesday night at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Richie, who was with daughters Nicole and Sophia, picked up the "Golden Note" award honoring his longevity in the industry.

"You know, I just kept saying to myself, 'This must be the end.' When they honor you with the lifetime achievement award, Golden Note, I figured this must be the end," joked Richie. "But actually, the truth is, thinking about it, it's really quite an honor.

"I think about the guys that came and the women that came before me. It's unbelievable. But tonight is especially a highlight, because my kids get to finally find out what I do for a living since I've been away from the house for so many years. So it really is for them that I'm really honored," said Richie.

Richie said he is especially loving playing his latest role -- that of grandpa.
