Scientists believed the drug marketed under the name Acomplia would help people quit smoking, lose weight and stop abusing drugs and alcohol. Researchers say it blocks pleasure centers in the brain that provide the feel-good response from smoking or eating.
But apparently the pills worked too well, and in a European trial raised the risk of depression, anxiety and suicide.
