Pasadena bans smoking in outdoor areas

October 21, 2008 12:00:00 AM PDT
Pasadena has become the latest Southland community to ban smoking in most outdoor areas. The Pasadena City Council voted Monday night to outlaw smoking in outdoor shopping and dining areas, movie ticket lines, and at special events like the Rose Parade.

Violators will be fined $100 for the first offense, and up to $500 for subsequent violations.

The new ordinance could take effect in 30 days.

Similar bans have already been enacted in Beverly Hills, Calabasas and Santa Monica.
