LOS ANGELES The 405 Freeway was shut down for about four hours Thursday morning, but was reopened at about 6 a.m. Onramps and offramps remained closed in the fire zone until 8 a.m.

The morning commute was a nightmare for thousands of drivers. Traffic was backed up for miles on the freeway and drivers were urged to take alternate routes.

Authorities warned that the freeway could be closed again at any time if the fire flares up.
