Arraignment delayed in animal cruelty case

TEMECULA, Calif. Sixty-six-year-old Elisao Gilbert Jimenez is charged with 10 felony counts of animal cruelty. On Tuesday, a Riverside County Judge granted Jimenez a continuance until April 9.

The complaint filed by the district attorney details a horrifying scene of abuse. It says in January, investigators found more than 200 dead dogs in plastic bags on Jimenez's property, and that one of the dogs had had its heart eaten out. The complaint also alleges that while investigators were trying to control dozens of live dogs, one animal killed another and began eating it.

According to the complaint, investigators also found one or more dead dogs with fresh wounds from dog fights, a dead cat on the bathroom counter of Jimenez's home, and several other pregnant and sick cats that had to be euthanized.

Jiminez is free on $5,000 bail.
