Investigation into deadly plane crash

POMONA, Calif. Hikers reported seeing the single-engine /*Piper Cherokee*/ aircraft go down at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday in a hilly area along the 2600 block of /*Pomona Boulevard*/ near Cal Poly Pomona.

Two victims on board the plane, a man and a woman, were killed in the crash. Autopsies are pending on the La Verne couple.

The plane was heading from La Verne to Mojave when it went down just minutes after takeoff. Capt. Frank Reynoso of the Los Angeles County fire Department said it appears the plane hit near some warehouses and homes, but crashed into vacant land.
