Runaway big-rig crash kills 2, injures 12

LA CANADA-FLINTRIDGE, Calif. A car-transport big-rig truck coming down Angeles Crest Highway lost control and crashed through an intersection in La Canada-Flintridge Wednesday. The truck struck several vehicles before plowing into a book store. Two people were killed at the scene. Twelve others were injured. Some injuries were critical. The truck driver received minor injuries.

Two people trapped in overturned SUVs were extricated by firefighters.

The big-rig crashed into and split a small red sportscar in the intersection, killing its driver.

Multiple ambulances and firefighters were on scene attending to the injured.

The big rig crashed into the Foothill Bookstore and Coffee House. One person inside the building received minor injuries.

To add to problems, the truck was reportedly leaking fuel, a fire hazard.

Apparently the driver of the big rig could not negotiate a right-angle turn at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Angeles Crest Highway.

Area residents have reportedly complained about the intersection in the past.

A semi-truck crashed through a nearby parking lot in September 2008, damaging seven vehicles.
