Men try to kidnap woman in Hermosa Beach

HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. A woman in her 20s told police she was getting items out of her car on Fourth Street near Ardmore Avenue when a dirty, white, older-model van pulled up alongside her at about 2 p.m., and three men inside asked her for directions.

"The door was swung open, and one of the subjects inside the van tried to drag her inside the van," said Sgt. Robert Higgins, /*Hermosa Beach Police Department*/.

Higgins said the victim was able to fight off the man and escape, while the van fled in an unknown direction.

One suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s with dark hair and a goatee.

Police said the suspect description and the circumstances are almost identical to an incident on January 3 in Redondo Beach.

The incident is disturbing to Hermosa Beach residents.

"Unfortunately, I can't just assume that someone is just innocent. It's more on the opposite side now, that if somebody needs directions, really, is that what you really need," said Hermosa Beach resident Cristina Kabealo.

Hermosa Beach resident Tami Ellet said the incident makes her think twice about going running at night.

"Probably won't go anywhere without my husband with me, or my dog," she said.

Anyone with information is urged to call Hermosa Beach police at (310) 318-0360.
