UCSF professor awarded Nobel Prize

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. Elizabeth H. Blackburn is a professor of biology and physiology at UCSF.

She and two other Americans won the 2009 prize for their discovery of a key mechanism in the genetic operations of cells. The finding has inspired new lines of research into cancer.

Blackburn and her two co-winners will split the $1.4 million prize.
