New program may allow pilots to nap

LOS ANGELES U.S. Airlines and their unions are pushing the FAA to allow pilots to take "controlled naps" in the cockpit.

Dozing off in flight is strictly forbidden by the FAA, but research finds that allowing one pilot to nap for a few minutes during flight can make them more alert during critical descents and landings.

Large foreign airlines like Quantas and British Airways already allow pilots to take a controlled nap.
