What's in, what's out for winter fashions

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. So what's "out" first? Store the stuffy trench coat and get updated with a statement coat. In that department, Jane Loddo, executive events director for Harpers Bazaar, loves a plush, black, detailed coat by Elie Tahari. Look for feminine, ruffly detail at the neck, but something that still keeps you warm on those cold nights.

Another trend that's out is the black-and-white color combo. This season it's all about satin and shine, such as an 80s-inspired, bronze-colored jumpsuit from /*Baby Phat*/ clothing.

Now that summer's over, say bye-bye to safari-khaki chic and hello to cooler weather rocker chic.

"We have the /*True Religion Brand Jeans*/ sexy leather pants. The sexy tough girl staple has never looked so good," says Loddo. "But the key to getting this look right is to mix the leather with different textures."

What about those gladiator-style sandals so popular in recent years? They're out. But if you really love the gladiator look, a piece of jewelry from Le Vian may be your best bet.

Another accessory to leave behind is the back-to-school backpack. This season, think animal prints. Loddo praised the large, exotic, giraffe-printed purse by Jessica Simpson. "It's a great weekend bag," explains Loddo.

Fashionistas at Harpers Bazaar also suggest tossing those flip-flops. This is the season for extreme footwear.

"We love the heels," says Jane Loddo, who suggests the collection by Lisa for Donald J. Pleiner. "The look is a sexy platform with peep-toe and cut out details, and it's a look that our editors at Harpers Bazzar love."
