Sierra Madre residents allowed to return home

SIERRA MADRE, Calif. Water and mud cascaded down neighborhoods in the area. One of the hardest hit places was Skyland Drive, where mud piled up about 5 feet high.

"Boulders twice the size of basketballs were actually coming down," said Andy Dotson.

Despite the evacuation orders Dotson and several other homeowners stayed behind to protect their houses.

"The reason I'm staying is that I have to make sure that the mud doesn't back up against my patio door, because that's just protecting my house," said Carol Lam.

Public works crews were out Sunday morning to help clean up the area. Sand and sandbags are available at the City Maintenance Center, 621 E. Sierra Blvd.

Fortunately, no one was hurt by the flooding.
