Compromise reached to reopen Sand Dune Park

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. The popular park was closed last August because of parking and traffic concerns.

Under the plan approved Tuesday night by the city, visitors looking to use the park will have to make a reservation online and pay a fee. The new reservation system will restrict the number of people who use the park.

The fee is expected to be between $3 and $5 per reservation. Kids 12 and under will be exempt from the rules.

Officials are also going to tighten up operations and hours at the park.

So far, there's no word on when the park will reopen. Officials say it has to be recontoured first.
