An LAPD officer heard the impact and was on the scene in a matter of seconds. The officer found the victim seriously injured but the driver had already left the scene.
"From the skid marks, we can tell the driver slowed briefly and then accelerated, traveling eastbound on Victory," said LAPD Sgt. Roland Cannon.
The victim is hospitalized in serious condition. Police say the vehicle involved in the accident is possibly a late model Nissan Xterra, either white or gray.
Police are urging anyone with information about the accident to call 1-877-LAPD-24-7.
