Text message saves O.C. woman's life

SANTA ANA, Calif. On Thursday, about 9:30 a.m., the woman sent a text saying she heard someone trying to break into her home in the 300 block of 22nd Street.

The 23-year-old woman said she was afraid the burglars might hear if she called 911, so she texted her father and a friend to call police. Then the suspects broke into the woman's bedroom and confronted her.

"They were startled and said, 'We have a weapon,'" said Joe Rodriquez, a neighbor. "She says, 'Well I just called the cops.' Somebody made a mention, 'Well I'm just going to take her,' and soon after, they just ran out."

When police arrived, they saw the three suspects escaping out the back door. Officers searched for hours and locked down nearby Hoover Elementary School, but they never found the suspects.
