A Look Back: Crystal's journey on 'American Idol'

Crystal's American Idol journey started last summer in Chicago and everywhere she's gone, she's picked up hundreds of fans along the way.

It was an audition that changed the trajectory for a local performer. Country star Shania Twain called it a performance packed with "raw natural talent." It was the first step on a journey that's taken Crystal Bowersox further than even she thought she would go.

It didn't take long for Crystal to emerge as the front-runner in the competition. "Hand in my Pocket" was followed by other memorable songs like "As Long As I Can See the Light", "Give Me One Reason", "You Can't Always Get What You Want", and "Me and Bobby Gee".

Crystal cracked the top ten with "Midnight Train to Georgia". And she followed that with a rousing rendition of "Come Together".

The dreadlocked gal from Ohio was the lead-off singer on "Elvis Presley Week" with her rendition of "Saved". But it was her take on "People Get Ready" and "No One Needs to Know" that were good enough to land her in the top five.

Then it all fell into place like dominos as "Summer Wind" broke Crystal into the final four. And a duet of "Falling Slowly Once" with Lee DeWyze combined with a solo performance of "I'm Alright" from Caddyshack put Bowersox in the final three.

It's been an amazing ride for the young lady now dubbed "Mama-Sox". From a small stage in Maumee to a national stage in Hollywood and northwest Ohio has been behind her every step of the way.
