Lawmakers want federal probe of Station Fire

LOS ANGELES The Station Fire killed two firefighters, destroyed 89 homes and blackened 250 square miles.

Democratic senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, Republican congressmen David Dreier and Hower P. "Buck" McKeon, and Democratic congress members Adam Schiff, Judy Chu and Brad Sherman signed a request for the investigation.

They question whether there was appropriate use of aircraft early in the firefighting effort and whether every possible measure was taken to protect homes.

The legislators also pointed to this week's disclosure that Station Fire dispatch recordings were withheld from a Forest Service review team and the public.

The Department of Agriculture, which runs the Forest Service, is investigating the withholding of recordings.
