A city report says the proposed move reflects a change in how dating services are now viewed, particularly in the age of the Internet.
"I think people should mate any way they can," said Calvin Bailey of Santa Monica.
Stacy Nicoletti said she supports lifting the ban because she met her boyfriend of seven years online.
"I have a lot of single friends that are involved in a lot of the online dating programs. I'm a fan," she said.
Matchmaking companies could bring the city more revenue. EHarmony is currently trying to move company headquarters to Santa Monica, but if the ban is not lifted, the move won't happen.
The current ban also prohibits escort services. Escort services would still be banned, but matchmaking services would be welcome.
