Calif. town gets phone service for 1st time

IOWA HILL, Calif. The 200 residents of Iowa Hills, which is northeast of Sacramento, have been depending on spotty cell phone service as the town has never had electricity or telephones.

The new phone lines and wiring were paid for with a $2.5 million grant from the California Public Utilities Commission.

Some of the town's residents said they were planning to skip having a landline despite the new service.
