A new iPad app for the speech impaired

January 18, 2011 12:00:00 AM PST
A new app is giving a voice to those who struggle to speak.

5-year-old Victor Pauca has a rare disorder that doesn't allow him to communicate like other kids. So to give him a voice, his father, a professor of computer science at Wake Forest University created "Verbal Victor."

All Victor has to do is click on buttons made up of familiar voices and sounds.

"Verbal Victor" sells for just seven dollars. Similar devices can cost thousands.
