Officer probed for allegedly punching woman

January 23, 2011 12:00:00 AM PST
A Utah Highway Patrol officer is being investigated for punching a woman several times during a traffic stop. Dash cam video from last August shows Sgt. Andrew Davenport punching Darla Wright after she allegedly evaded police and led them on a chase.

Police eventually stopped the 53-year-old by blocking her between two squad cars.

Davenport said he struck Wright because she refused to comply with orders and kept her foot on the accelerator in attempts to escape.

Wright was eventually arrested on several charges.

Davenport has been placed on paid administrative leave.
