LA deputy hurt after slamming car into tree

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy is recovering in the hospital on Thursday after crashing his patrol car in Lawndale.

He is listed in stable condition and expected to survive.

The accident happened at Hawthorne Boulevard and Marine Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. The deputy was responding to a report of an armed robbery.

He lost control of his patrol car and smashed into a tree. The deputy was trapped for about 15 minutes before being rescued.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
