A 14-year-old boy is facing charges after allegedly pointing a laser at two aircraft heading to Los Angeles International Airport.

The boy was taken into custody at 61st Street and Avalon Avenue in South Los Angeles.

Investigators said the boy pointed a green laser at a plane and a police helicopter. He was being held in juvenile custody.

The Federal Aviation Administration said lasers can blind or distract pilots and damage eyesight.

There were 100 incidents of laser pointing at aircraft at LAX in 2010. That's more than any other airport in the country.
