12-year-old hides from robbers, calls 911

Two would-be robbers are behind bars thanks to police and a quick-thinking, phone-wielding 12-year-old girl in Florida.

Cynthia Valdez was home alone when she heard someone break through the front door of her house in Hialeah, Fla., Monday afternoon.

The sixth-grader hid in the closet in her room and called 911 on her cell phone.

"There's somebody, there's a guy -- I'm home alone. Please, send me somebody here quick," she told the operator. "He's in the house."

"Do you hear him, like the door opening in your room?" the 911 operator asked.

"Yes," she responded.

She stayed on the phone with the dispatcher, who sent police to the home. In just minutes, nearly two dozen officers surrounded the home and waited for the suspects to come out.

Police arrested 25-year-old Michel Torres and 35-year-old Pedro Estrada. Both men face burglary charges.

The girl was shaken up, but not injured.
