Space shuttle Discovery is back on Earth Wednesday from its final voyage, wrapping up a long flying career.

The world's most traveled space ship landed on Earth shortly before 9 a.m. P.T. The shuttle is retiring after 39 missions over 27 years.

Discovery will be decommissioned and will eventually go on display at the Smithsonian Institution.

Discovery returned to Earth from the International Space Station. The astronauts delivered and installed a new storage compartment, complete with a humanoid robot.

The mission added 13 days to Discovery's lifetime total of 365 days in space. Its total mileage is 148 million miles.
