For the drivers, 10,000 deliveries plus $3.45 for a gallon of gas doesn't add up.
Dari, "They are paying out of their tip money to put fuel in their cars. It's not making up the difference. We give them run money and now they're putting their tip money in the car too."
So the owner of the restaurant plans to make some changes adding a surcharge to each delivery, the restaurant and the driver will split the cost. "Now instead of getting X for delivery, we give them 25 percent more now than they normally would get," says Dari.
Dari says the idea of a surcharge is nothing new. The restaurant did the same thing back in 2008. In July of that year, Ohioans were paying an average cost of $4.05 to fill up.
Back on February 12, we were paying $2.98 cents for a gallon of gas. That's steadily been increasing. We were at $3.28 on February 23. Then on March 3, gas in the glass city peaked at $3.48.
Those at the oasis are hopeful prices have peaked and the pain at the pump will soon subside.
Dari says food costs have also risen about 5 percent. He wants to stress the surcharge will not be pushed onto the customer.
