Jessica Lynn Shekell, 23, of Anaheim, pleaded guilty last October to multiple felony counts of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.
In Oct. 2009, /*California Highway Patrol*/ officers observed Shekell driving 50 mph the wrong direction on State Route 91. The defendant crashed head-on into a pickup truck, totaling both vehicles.
The driver of the other vehicle, 49-year-old Sally Miguel, and her 30-year-old sister, Patricia Miguel, were killed in the crash. Their nieces, 15-year-old Mary Miguel and 11-year-old Sara Miguel, survived and were treated for internal injuries.
Shekell was transported to the hospital and treated for facial trauma and fractures to her arms. The defendant had a blood alcohol level of .26 percent, more than three times the legal limit.
