LAX-Japan flights resume, loved ones reunite

March 12, 2011 12:00:00 AM PST
Several airlines resumed flights between Los Angeles and Tokyo on Saturday in the wake of a magnitude-8.9 earthquake that hit Japan.

More than a dozen flights were canceled on Friday.

Most airlines said they were waiting for confirmation from Tokyo that passengers who landed would be able to leave the airports there.

Saturday, Korean, United, Delta and Singapore airlines resumed flights between the U.S and Japan.

Los Angeles International Airport expected all of its airlines to return to normal operations by Sunday.

Although some flights were resuming, people flying to Japan are advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport.
