Anthem Blue Cross is delaying and reducing rate hikes for some 600,000 policyholders.

The Los Angeles-based health insurer said it will delay a planned 16.4 percent premium increase until July and reduce it to 9.1 percent.

The company is also putting off increases in deductibles and copayments until January.

The state's insurance commissioner said delaying the increases will save policyholders at least $40 million.
