Study: Eating apples daily lowers cholesterol

LOS ANGELES

Researchers tested 160 women between the ages of 45 and 65. Women who ate dried apples every day for a year lowered their total cholesterol by 14 percent and their bad cholesterol by 23 percent.

The scientists are not sure exactly why but think that the nutrients in apples may reduce inflammation in the body.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture provided some funding for the study.
