Local boy raises $200 for Japan relief fund

LOS ANGELES

Sixth grader Patrick Mapile of Granada Hills wanted to help victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami, so he took $35 his grandparents gave him and made up wristbands reading "Pray for Japan."

The wristbands have been a hot seller.

So far Patrick has made nearly $200, which he donated to ABC7's Japan relief effort.

"Seeing the people on the news suffering, seeing all they have being taken away from them, inspired me to make them," Patrick said.

It was the generosity of viewers like Patrick that helped ABC7 raise more than $1 million for the station's Japan Disaster Relief Fund.
