According to the /*California Highway Patrol*/, the boy, Christian Antonio Martinez, was hit just after 5:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Poplar Place.
The 25-year-old driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. Authorities say the driver may have been trying to go around a car that was double parked.
Neighbors say Martinez was chasing a ball into the street when he was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
