The latest DC Comics mega movie pulled in $52.7 dollars domestically, easily taking the weekend title.
The film, starring Ryan Reynolds, pulled in another $17 million.
Overall it's considered a solid but unremarkable opening compared to other comic book films.
Last week's top film "Super 8" slipped to number two, pulling in just over $21 million.
The Jim Carrey film "Mr. Popper's Penguins" debuted at third place.
Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
