Mentally disabled mom and her baby found

LOS ANGELES

Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department say the two were found at a South Los Angeles motel.

The family was frantic and concerned because the 23-year-old mother, who has the mental capacity of a 10 year old, is unable to care for the child.

Kathy Nicole Leath and daughter Genesis were last seen about 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Ralphs market on Pico and San Vicente boulevards in Mid City.

According to Cortez Leath, the woman's uncle and conservator, he walked away from the woman and her daughter for a moment as he went to another food section and when he returned they were nowhere to be found.

"She was a little pissed because the night before, [social] workers came out and said she couldn't be with the baby unless I was there," he said.

Leath said she has run off four times in the past two years but always returned home.
