A drug used to treat diabetes may also help fight Alzheimer's disease, according to a new study published in Archives of Neurology.

The study shows insulin can help slow the decline in cognitive function in patients with mild and severe dementia.

The study's author suggests insulin plays an important part in brain function, but warns that much more research is needed.

Too much insulin could be bad for patients, so they don't want anyone trying to treat themselves at home, the study says.
