Four students at the Art Institute in San Bernardino were exposed to an unknown chemical, prompting an evacuation of more than 1,000 people on Monday, officials said.

The incident happened around 9:20 a.m. on the 600 block Brier Drive.

The students complained of difficulty breathing, according to the San Bernardino Fire Department.

They were decontaminated, and two of them were transported to a hospital for minor injuries.

Authorities said the victims had been mixing a solution in a mop bucket. The incident remains under investigation.
