California continues slow population growth

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

New figures released Tuesday by the state Department of Finance show California has roughly 37.5 million residents as of July 1. We added 260,000 new people in the last year.

California lost about 154,000 residents to other states in the one-year span, but that was offset by about 132,000 new foreign immigrants.

Nearly half of those new residents moved to five Southern California counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego

Still, the overall growth was less than 1 percent year to year.
